Dr. Shirley Bembo received her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry at the University of the Philippines in 1993. She pursued her Medical Degree at the University of the East Medical Center in the Philippines where she graduated as the Class Valedictorian in 1997. She was voted as Most Outstanding Intern during her Post Graduate Internship in 1998.

Dr. Bembo completed her Internal Medicine Residency at New York Medical College—Brooklyn and Queens Program in 2002. She completed her Fellowship training in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. During her fellowship, she co-authored a Review Article on Gynecomastia for the Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine in 2004. She had also written case reports which were subsequently published at Endocrine Practice and at The American Journal of Medical Sciences.

Dr. Bembo’s clinical interests include diabetes, polycystic ovarian syndrome, osteoporosis and thyroid disease. She is skilled at thyroid ultrasound as well as ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration of suspicious thyroid nodules.

Dr. Bembo is a member of the Endocrine Society, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and she is a fellow of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Bembo is board certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism.
